The Opportunity
Mosman Municipal Council is seeking a visionary and versatile leader to join its executive team as Director of Environment and Planning. This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of one of Sydney’s most iconic and heritage-rich communities and be a leader at one its most forward-thinking Councils on issues such as climate response and AI.
Reporting directly to the General Manager and part of the Council Executive Team, the Director of Environment and Planning will oversee:
- Development Services: Assessment of Development Applications, Regulatory development and monitoring building activities
 - Urban Planning: Strategic planning and heritage advisory services
 - Environmental Services and Open Space: Health and education programs, waste and recycling, street and beach cleaning
 - Sustainability: climate change policy and response, parks, reserves, tree management and traffic management
 - Asset Strategy and Management: Roads, drainage, sea-walls, parks, public buildings, bushland, work depots
 - Capital Projects: manage high-impact projects like the landmark Mosman Library revitalisation
 - Compliance: Enforcing parking regulations, litter control, marine and dog laws, bushland protection, and compliance with development consents
 
The Requirements
- Must be an experienced leader managing a team of ~60 FTE
 - Brings experience from local government or has worked with government clients in the private sector
 - Communicates with empathy and sophistication, engaging effectively with Mosman’s discerning community
 - Has experience delivering complex projects and navigating stakeholder consultation
